3 Mistakes You Could Be Making In Your Business!

Do you find yourself trying to do it all?

Do you find yourself listening to others definition of success?

Do you find yourself playing small instead of big?

If you answered yes to one or even all these questions, you are not alone! This can happen as you pursue both your personal and professional goals in business.  However, the key is to keep moving forward and not paralyze your progress.

If you have at one point tried to do it all, listened to others definition of success, or played small; here are 3 ways to keep you from making these mistakes in your business!

  1. Stop trying to do it all!  The quickest way to complete all of your projects and tasks is to outsource! Do not worry because you will still have creative control and this will still be your business! Outsourcing will free you up to do even more strategic things when it comes to your business. Today, there are so many ways to get the job done and entrepreneurs should take advantage of “more hands on deck.”
  1. Create your own definition of success!  Do not get bogged down in what others definition of success might be. Remember, all of our entrepreneurial journeys are different because simply put, we are all different. Create your own definition and then take the steps that will help you achieve that success!
  1. Do not play small!  Or rather let me say, do not sell yourself short! You can do this! Remind yourself and look at how far you have come with your business and professional goals. Yes, there is always room for more growth, but it’s important to celebrate your successes.  After all, you are amazing and have many opportunities and resources available to you.

Remember keep moving your business forward and do not paralyze your progress! If you need outsourcing support, we can help!

3 Ways to Keep Moving in March!

There is less than a week left in March! Do you still have some items that need completion before the end of the month?  Even if you had some minor setbacks to “get it moving” this entire month, why not get ready to end the first quarter strong!

Here are 3 ways:

  1. Remember the why! When you are working to complete your tasks or projects, remember why you started. It is easy to lose focus on why you started but remember the big picture.  Small and collected efforts can lead to big outcomes.
  1. Do not leave stones unturned! As you are navigating in meeting your business strategies, it is important not to leave any stones unturned.  What does that mean?  As you embark upon new partnerships at networking opportunities, be sure to follow up.  As you have projects and tasks that need your attention, do everything it takes to follow up and complete them!  Those “unturned stones” could be the opportunity to land a potential client or lead to significant outcomes in your business.
  1. Do not be afraid to make adjustments! Do not let fear grip or stop you. Changes are important in keeping up with the latest things within your industry and taking risks to go further in your business.  And if you need to make adjustments, as Nike reminds us…”just do it!”

As you are getting ready to close out the first quarter and embark upon the next quarter, remember to focus on your why, don’t leave stones unturned, and don’t be afraid to make adjustments.  Keep it moving!

3 Ways to Get Moving in March!

business-graphics-1236315It’s the third month of the year! Have you found yourself slowing down since the beginning of the year?  It is important to have focus and clarity so you are able to get moving!

Here are 3 ways:

  1. Make it happen! If what you wanted to achieve these past couple months didn’t occur then it’s time to make it happen now. At the beginning of the year, I shared in a blog post about having solutions versus resolutions. When your solutions are relative to goals (and S-M-A-R-T) ones, it helps in staying on target. The quote by Dan Pink sums it up:

“People fail to achieve mastery not because they aren’t talented but because they aren’t disciplined!”

  1. Keep things in perspective! Remember the big picture. What are the steps that you will need to take to secure that big client or achieve that next goal? Your smaller steps are what will lead you to the big picture.  Just remember, do not think everything should be perfect. It is more important to just get moving!
  1. Accentuate the positive! There is power in positive thinking. It can make or break your day. I had a mentor that would commonly say, “you create the weather in your department and so what’s the forecast today?” Are you walking around spreading sunshine or swirling around like a tornado? Your mindset and positive thinking assists in the ability to land that next client or achieve that next goal. So get moving with the power of positive thinking!

And the bonus way–

Maximize your time! Prioritize and organize your day so that you are able to accomplish your “to do” list. However, do not put so much pressure on yourself because of the other 3 ways we have mentioned in this post.

If you are expecting different results than your approach or method should be different. Don’t worry there is a part 2 coming along with more ways! In the meantime what are you waiting on…get moving in March!

3 Ways to Follow Through!

follow-up-graphicDo you have a hard time following through? Of course, it’s easier to follow through on the projects or tasks that you enjoy doing and sometimes it’s just about having the time.  If you have put off completing a task as we speak, you have landed on the right blog post for a boost to get things done and follow through! Here are 3 ways:

  1. Outsource! If follow through is not your thing then outsource! Today, there are so many ways to get the job done and entrepreneurs should take advantage of “more hands on deck.” Take a moment to figure out what are some of the tasks or projects that aren’t your favorite but are required for the success of your business? And, also think what is the cost of you not completing this task? This is what you need to outsource.
  1. Work Smarter! You might have heard a time or two, “work smarter, not harder.” Well how do you accomplish this when it comes to follow through? One way is by promising less so that you can deliver more! It’s easier to try to focus on five things versus a thousand things. Moreover, it is all about balance, which will allow you to focus on the strategic initiatives when it comes to your business.
  1. Think Urgency! Why put off tomorrow what you can do today, right? Yes, remember that your follow through is important because it provides the opportunity to yield positive results for your business. Your urgency can be the difference in landing that next big client and deal! Therefore, you have to be willing to push forward with a sense of urgency when completing your tasks and projects.

Are Your Goals SMART?

img_8128What goals did you set this year? Do you find that you always start out with good intentions but are unable to cross the finish line when it comes to your goals? If you didn’t catch our last blog post, I shared that you should say no to new year’s resolutions.  Instead, think about solutions that you can achieve in your business.  You can even take this a step further and apply this to your personal goals.  One way to think about doing this is through goal setting.

Goals are important and serve as an effective strategy in making plans happen.  Many are familiar with the quote by Benjamin Franklin, “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”  Planning is essential to your goals.  It is important that your goals are not just something in your head, but rather doable steps. Additionally, you need a process that aligns with what you should do when it comes to your goals.

So, what exactly are SMART goals and how do you have them? I am glad you asked! 🙂 Quick history lesson, the SMART acronym first appeared in the November 1981 Management Review.  “There’s a S.M.A.R.T way to write management goals and objectives,” shares George Doran, Arthur Miller, and James Cunningham.

The five criteria include:

Specific: Target a specific area for improvement

Measurable: Quantify, or at least suggest, an indicator of progress

Assignable: Specify who will do it

Realistic: State what results can realistically be achieved given available resources.

Time-related: Specify when the result can be achieved.

Are your goals SMART? If not, start the year off with SMART goals. The success of your business depends on your ability to set and achieve goals. Remember, it’s a new year, however it also requires a new mindset and doing things differently! So get started being SMART today! 🙂

Say No to New Year’s Resolutions!

It’s the 1st day of January…the New Year! What are you planning to achieve this year for yourself, family, or your business?

Instead of making resolutions for the New Year; why not think about “solutions” that you can achieve this year for yourself, family, or business.

Solutions Graphic I believe that goal setting is also a great way to come up with these solutions (shameless plug for our next blog post). So what “solutions” will help you be intentional when it comes to your vision, goals, and dreams this year?  Here are 3 things to consider when it comes to your “solutions” this year:

  1. Focus! Dare to focus! It’s important to minimize distractions. Learn how to “loan yourself out less.” It’s okay to focus on one thing at a time. You can be more effective this way and it limits the feeling of being overwhelmed. This way you are able to focus on the things that are instrumental in moving forward in regard to you, family, and business.
  1. Time! Have time and don’t let time have you! Everyone feels there is an increased pressure and demand on their time. Since time is such a valuable commodity, it’s important to not let have time have you. Create a schedule that allows you to focus. Determine what is vital and what is not. So set short and long-term goals for yourself, family, or business.
  1. Eliminate pressure! Be kind to yourself and eliminate pressure! Don’t beat yourself up if something doesn’t quite go according to plan. Often we put so much pressure on ourselves to do and be successful overnight. This journey is not a sprint but a marathon. Remember that “all” efforts become “collected” efforts toward a goal or dream. Pause and take a moment to reflect on how far you have come. Think about where you started and how far you have come.

I challenge you on your journey this year to remember these “solutions” instead of “resolutions.” Here’s to making it a great 2017!

3 Secrets to Success!

success-graphicWhat comes to mind when you think of the word success? Do you picture having a thriving business and making an impact on the business community? Is it nailing a specific task? Or is it seeing your name in lights?  However, you define success, there are 3 secrets (shhh don’t let the word out) to success in business.

The 3 secrets to success are:

1. Think yes! What exactly does think yes mean? It’s about the power of positive thinking! When you think about your projects and business, it’s important that your attitude reflects positivity…winning, achieving your goals and dreams. Attitude is everything and it can impact how you see the world both personally and professionally.

2. Believe! You have to believe in the product or service that you offer to your customers. Have you solved the customers’ problem? Is the customer better off because they met you and have used your product or service? Your beliefs are critical to how you perceive yourself and the customer perceives you. Remember it does take time but you have what it takes!

3. Continue to learn! You should never stop learning in business. You can’t master one thing and stop because learning is a continuous process.  Your business and success is based upon building brick by brick and layer upon layer.  It’s important to sharpen your skills and knowledge by identifying ways to learn from others which can include attending seminars, networking events, reading books, and participating in webinars, just to name a few.

Success doesn’t happen overnight but think yes, believe, and continue to learn and you are on your way!

3 Ways to Earn a Great Reputation!

You have most likely heard the saying, “you never get a second chance to make a first impression.” What does this mean to you? Do you believe this involves your reputation? What do people think of when they are considering your business? Do you believe your reputation precedes you?  Today, with so many businesses in the marketplace and the onslaught of technology and social media your reputation is definitely a part of this equation. business-graphics-1057084

So here are 3 ways to earn a great reputation:

1. Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it! I know that is definitely a mouthful, but very important. Your customers are trusting you to meet the deliverables that you have promised them. Remember, it’s all about providing great customer service which means going the extra mile. Customer service is all about what you do and how you do it. You want to be known as the person that can get the job done and done well.

2. Be authentic! Today, with the avalanche of messages that customers are bombarded with; it can be hard to decipher between those that are authentic versus not authentic. Therefore, it is important for you to keep your authentic voice by being a business that customers enjoy, continue to support, and will gladly give referrals.

3. Be accessible! One of the most disappointing things that can happen when you are considering a potential business is the lack of urgency or responsiveness. One could think does this person want my business because they have not responded? It can be very frustrating when your inquiry or message goes into the abyss. It is important to be responsive, if you receive an inquiry about your product or service, you should respond timely. If you are having problems keeping up with your customers (consider a Virtual Assistant, okay shameless plug) then you should adopt methods and strategies to stay in touch in a timely and consistent manner.

A great reputation is important because you want people to value your product or service and what you bring to the marketplace.  Remember, word of mouth is one of the biggest promotions that you can receive from your customers. You want that reputation to be one that speaks to the quality of the service, product, and experience.  Reputation isn’t a one-time thing but requires a consistent effort in continuing to build. So be sure to protect it, nurture it, and grow it!

3 Ways to Keep Customers Coming Back For More!

customer-service

Today, customers find themselves inundated with messages to buy the latest product or service.  It’s important to have a positive attitude that will attract and develop relationships with your customers.  So how do you stand out and keep customers coming back for more?

Here are 3 ways:

1. Add value for the customer! What do you bring to the table for your customer? Remember your customers are looking for you to solve a problem for them. The value that you provide to their business has to make sense to their mission, vision, and bottom line. This value has to benefit the customer.

2. Be authentic! In a day where it seems that we are moving away from being authentic, business owners can’t afford to do this when it comes to their customers. Your customers want to endorse you, support you, and stay loyal to you. However, you have to offer them something so they can do these things. Therefore, authenticity and being the “real” you is what will resonate with your customers. It’s all about relationship building!

3. Put in work to get work! In order to achieve the goals that you have set for your business and to attract customers, you have to put in hard work. It is important to make sure that your focus is on what will bring you the greatest return. This includes having a product or service that your customers will keep coming back for more.

Just to add a bonus way – great customer service! Think about your experience when you purchase an item or visit a place of business.  You are expecting great customer service!  The same should apply when customers are interested in your service or product.  Remember customers are your word of mouth promotion!

The message is quite simple…the customer needs help.  So all you have to do is help them!  Remember the customer needs you and is searching for you too! So keep being the solution for them.  Keep the customers coming back for more!
